Phase-out plan: remaining coal capacities in the CEE region 2020
Three countries in the CEE region have no coal: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The highest remaining coal capacity was recorded in Poland, amounting to 30.4 GW. Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Croatia are countries for which no phase-out date has been set. Slovakia will stop burning coal to produce electricity by the end of 2023, and Hungary announced that it will phase out all coal-powered electricity production by 2030, paving the way for a just transition to renewable energy.
