Share of electricity production from coal in Africa 2021, by leading country
Around 84 percent of the electricity generated in South Africa was sourced from coal as of 2021, the highest share in Africa. In 2020, the percentage of electricity generated from coal in Morocco and Zimbabwe reached 58.8 percent and 31 percent, respectively. In contrast, the electricity produced from the fossil fuel was lower in Nigeria, at two percent.
