The Stouffer name has long been associated with the food business. Starting with a creamery company in 1898, the family would eventually open its first Stouffer’s restaurant in 1924 and began selling the frozen meals now associated with the brand in 1954. In 1973, Nestle acquired Stouffer’s.
Single-serve dinner landscape
Single-serve dinners were the fourth highest grossing frozen food category in 2018, behind ice cream, frozen novelties, and pizza. Sales growth was very strong, with complete meals growing by 48 percent compared to the previous year. The most common reason for purchasing frozen meals according to consumers was convenience, but taste and flavor were strong factors as well.
