Increased mental health spending distribution by payer in the U.S. 2009-2020
This statistic describes the distribution of increased mental and substance abuse disorder spending by payer in the United States from 2009 to 2020. During this time, it is expected that 7 percent of increased mental health and substance abuse disorder spending will be paid from out of pocket. Since the 1980s, expenditure on mental health has increased but the slow in growth in recent years may be linked to closures of specialty hospitals.
