Zara is a fast fashion retailer which was founded in 1975 by Amancio Ortega and Rosalía Mera. The first store opened in Spain in this year and was initially named Zorba. During the 1980s, the retailer began to develop into the fast fashion retailer we know today, as Ortega optimized design, manufacturing and distribution processes in order to keep up with upcoming fashion trends. In 1988, Zara entered into the neighboring market of Portugal, in 1989 to the United States and from the 1990s on into the rest of the world. In 2021, their brand was valued at approximately 13.2 billion U.S. dollars.
