Annual average overnight guest number at lodging facilities in Japan FY 2018, by type
In fiscal year 2018, the average number of overnights guests staying in ryokans amounted to around 40 thousand per business, boosted significantly by the growing popularity of large-scale businesses in recent years. Ryokans are Japanese style inns furnished in a traditional manner, with rooms covered with tatami mats and sliding doors, standing in contrast to western-style hotels.
