Gas reserves
The world’s largest natural gas reserves are located in the Middle East and amount to over 75 trillion cubic meters. Iran alone holds 17 percent of the world’s gas reserves, followed by Qatar with 12 percent. Only Russia’s natural gas reserves are larger, at 24 percent of the total world reserve.
Gas producers
Although the United States have only the fourth largest natural gas reserves worldwide, they were the leading natural gas producer with over 920 billion cubic meters. Following behind was Russia. The leaders of natural gas production in the Middle East were Iran with 244 billion cubic meters and Qatar with 178 billion cubic meters.
