Availability of handwashing facility at homes in West African countries 2017
More than one-third of West Africans did not have any handwashing facilities at home as of 2017. In Liberia, about 97 percent of the population did not have access to a handwashing facility in their houses. Similarly, in Guinea-Bissau, nine in ten people did not have basic handwashing facilities such as water and soap, available at home. Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, and Nigeria were above the global average. Nonetheless, in terms of population size, Nigeria is among the countries with the largest number of people lacking this facility, worldwide, followed by Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
