Share of global transportation sector CO₂ emissions 2022, by region
The Asia-Pacific region accounted for approximately 31 percent of global transportation-related carbon dioxide emissions in 2022. North America was the second-largest contributor that year, accounting for 30 percent of emissions. The majority of the region's emissions were produced by the United States, which is the world's biggest producer of transportation emissions by far.
The Asia-Pacific region accounted for just 20 percent of global transportation emissions in 2000, but rapid economic growth in the region - specifically in China - has seen emissions there soar over the past two decades.
