Freedom of expression score in Cameroon 2000-2023
Cameroon scored 28 points in the Global Expression Report (GxR) in 2023. This was lower than in 2020 by one points. Furthermore, the country was stable between 2000 and 2015 and dropped in 2016, in line with the Anglophone crisis, which started when the Francophone-dominated government assigned French-speaking judges in Anglophone minority areas, leading to a wave of protests followed by separatists declaring independence in the north-west and south-west of the country (calling it Ambazonia).GxR ranks countries based on the openness of the society, with a higher score being given to countries with more freedom of expression.
