As of 2021, English was the foreign language which the greatest share of primary school students in EU countries were learning, with 84.2 percent of primary education students learning the language in that year. French was the second most learned foreign language by primary school students in 2021, with 5.3 percent of students, while German was learned by 3.5 percent of schoolchildren.
