Annual change in fossil fuel CO₂ emissions in the European Union 2000-2023
Fossil fuel carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions produced in the European Union fell by an estimated eight percent in 2023, relative to 2022 levels. These significant reductions mean that EU CO₂ emissions in 2023 were at levels last experienced in the early 1960s. The increased production of electricity from clean energy sources like wind and solar power have played a key role in these reductions.
