Premiums written on the life insurance market in Sweden 2004-2016
According to data provided in 2019, a total of approximately 23.7 billion euros worth of premiums were written by Swedish life insurances in 2016. This is a decrease when compared to the previous year. Note that the data provided is the most recent available. Insurance data usually tends to be collected first and has a significant time gap before it is published. No numbers exist (yet) on 2017 and 2018. In 2016, however, there were approximately 355 insurance companies in Sweden. Most of these were small non-life insurance groups. In life insurance the five largest insurance companies have 60 per cent of the market.
