This statistic shows the results of a 2016 survey which asked respondents in Austria how their startups were initially founded. 78.4 percent of respondents advised that their startup began as an independent venture, the majority in this statistic. Startups that had their origins in an existing company accounted for 11.2 percent of reponses, while nine percent of startups had their foundations in universities.
