New cases of leprosy in Latin America 2021, by country
In 2021, approximately 20,000 new cases of leprosy were registered in the Latin American and Caribbean region. The highest number of new cases was reported in Brazil, with a total of 18,318 cases. Present in at least 22 countries in the American continent, leprosy - also known as Hansen's disease - is a curable chronic infectious disease.
