IPSOS, most Belgians held distorted perceptions on the prevalence of violent deaths. In 2020, Belgians believed that, on average, 5.6 percent of every hundred deaths were due to interpersonal violence such as homicides or murders. In addition, Belgians estimated that 4.4 percent of deaths were linked to terrorism or conflict. In reality, only 0.1 percent of deaths in Belgium were caused by interpersonal violence and even fewer from terrorism or conflict.
