Sought-after diverse characters in kids and YA books in libraries North America 2018
This statistic shows the most in-demand authentic character portrayals in children's and young adult books in school and public libraries according to librarians in North America as of May 2018. The findings reveal that 74 percent of responding librarians in the United States and Canada most wanted books that authentically portrayed Black or African American characters, and 68 percent were keen to find books with biracial and multiracial characters to add to their collection. Books with LQBTQIA+, disabled and Asian, East Asian and Southeast Asian characters were also in-demand and considered difficult to find.
