In the U.S. from 2014 to 2016, 79 percent of adults aged 65 years and older with a physician visit at which benzodiazepines were prescribed used Medicare to pay. In comparison, over half the doctor's visits for benzodiazepine prescriptions among adults under 64 years of age was paid for via private insurance.
