* The source's investigation was based on the average back-to-school costs for a child entering sixth grade (the first year of middle school).

** The 216 surveys received came from 29 departments and were distributed as follows:
71 specialty stores;
68 supermarkets and department stores;
83 hypermarkets;
15 e-commerce sites.
Respondents reported the price of 45 back-to-school items (17 paper/filling supplies, 25 non paper supplies and 3 sports items) in their respective cities and for each distribution channel. Respondents were asked to raise the reference price to correspond to good value for money, for a period of use of at least one year.
