Coal consumption of power stations in the United Kingdom has decreased considerably in the period of consideration. Between 1970 and 2022, consumption decreased by over 97 percent. This significant decline, particularly from 2000 onwards, is directly related to the new policies aimed at mitigating climate change and phasing out the use of fossil fuels. In 2022, the UK coal consumption of power stations totaled 2.25 million metric tons.
