In 2021, the Line Commutated Current Sourced Converter (LCC) high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems dominated the North American market for electric power transmission. They accounted for a 66 percent share of the total HVDC transmission units in the region. Inexpensive and with a high short circuit capacity, which allows them to transmit electricity at great voltage and power levels, LCCs are more popular than the Voltage Source Converters (VSC)
