Share of e-wallet payment transactions in West Africa 2022, by type
As of 2022, cash top-ups occupied the largest share (33 percent) of e-wallet payments supported by electronic money institutions within member countries of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU). This was followed by cash withdrawals and person-to-person transfers, with around 28 percent and 19 percent, respectively. On the other hand, bill payments, salary payments, and remittances from individual bank accounts were some of the least types of e-wallet transactions performed by people within the region.
