During the first quarter of 2020, the market size of consumer electronic appliances in China had dipped to a value of around 20.9 billion yuan. The retail sales of these appliances had also witnessed a decline during the first quarter of that year but rose again to 73.8 billion yuan during the second quarter. Both these incidents may be attributed to the adverse impact brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic globally during that period. Haier Group affiliates Two major subsidiaries of the Haier Group are the Haier Smart Home company and the Haier Electronics Group. The Haier Electronics Group generates its revenue primarily from the domestic market as opposed to revenue from overseas customers that totalled only about three billion yuan in 2019. Conversely, the overseas revenue raised by Haier Smart Home totalled 93 billion yuan in 2019, which was slightly less than the amount raised in domestic revenue in that year.
