Cases of AIDS also falling
The later stages of HIV are referred to as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The cases of AIDS has generally fallen over the same time period as the fall in HIV, resulting in only 43 cases in 2022 down from 83 cases in 2014.
European situation
Between 2008 and 2015, the number of new HIV cases among men increased in Europe before starting a continuous decrease from 2016. A very similar trend can be observed among women. When broken down by age groups, the highest number of HIV cases in 2022, was found among people aged between 30 and 39 years.
