Popularity rating of Donald Trump in Britain 2020-2023

As of the fourth quarter of 2023, 26 percent of people in Great Britain indicated that they liked Donald Trump, compared with 19 percent in the previous quarter. Before the most recent quarter, Donald Trump was viewed most positively in the second quarter of 2021, when 22 percent of Britons said they liked him. By contrast, Trump was the least popular in the first quarters of 2021 and 2022, when just 14 percent of people said they liked him. 

Biden vs Trump rematch likely in 2024

Like in the previous U.S. election in 2020, it looks increasingly likely that voters in America will choose between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in November 2024. Current President Joe Biden announced his intention to seek a second term in April 2023, and will likely face little serious opposition in becoming the Democratic nominee. Donald Trump, meanwhile, has seen off most of his rivals in the first two Republican primaries of 2024 in Iowa and New Hampshire, with Ron DeSantis dropping out after finishing second in Iowa. Despite this, there is evidence to suggest most Americans would prefer different options, with most Americans agreeing that neither Biden nor Trump should run in November.

Trump's visit to the UK as President

Donald Trump’s first visit to the United Kingdom as U.S. President in July 2018 was not without controversy. In January 2018, several months before Trump’s visit, 45 percent of Britons were supportive of it going ahead, compared with 39 percent who thought it should be cancelled. Nevertheless, opponents of Trump’s policies formed huge protests in central London, with a huge inflatable ‘Trump Baby’ as the centerpiece. In relation to Brexit, Trump advised the British Prime Minister of the time, Theresa May, to sue the European Union. Among leave voters, Trump’s confrontational approach to negotiations led most of them to believe he would make a success of Brexit, while a further 36 percent thought he was a better leader than Theresa May.
