U.S. Automobile Sales Soar in August
Growing consumer confidence in the United States has been reflected in soaring automobile sales during the month of August. Sales figures increased by 17 percent in comparison to the same period last year, reaching almost 1.5 million vehicles.
Japanese car manufacturers fared especially well – Toyota, Honda and Nissan all increased their sales by more than 20 percent. Their American counterparts also proved successful, with Ford, Chrysler and General Motors recording double digit growth.
The surging August sales figures represent real proof that the battered American economy is turning a corner. With unemployment falling and automobile sales now standing at pre-recession levels, all signs point to a sustained economic recovery.
