When it comes to the availability of hospital beds across the world, there are significant differences between developed and emerging markets. Japan has by far the highest capacity with 13.6 hospital beds per 1000 inhabitants.
Germany is also well known for its efficient health system and it has 8.3 hospital beds per 1000 people. The United States is significantly worse off with 3.1 hospital beds per 1000 inhabitants while the situation is grim in Mexico where there are only 1.7 beds for every 1000 people.
