Video game hardware sales have declined significantly for the past twelve months. In October 2012, hardware sales came in 37 percent below last year’s total, as the industry is suffering from lack of innovation and increasing competition from devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Above chart shows how the video game industry in the United States desperately needs a new impulse, one that many hope the Wii U could deliver.
