This statistic shows the development U.S. Congress' support and opposition* against the pending Stop Online Piracy Act (also known as SOPA) bill between January 18, 2012 and January 23, 2012. After internet-wide black-outs and prominent protests of numerous websites on January 18, 2012, SOPA opposition experienced a surge on the next day, rising up to 122 members of congress whereas only 63 of the originally 80 bill supporters remained. 40 supporters of the SOPA were democrats, as of January 19, 2012.
As of January 22, 2012, SOPA and PIPA have been indefinitely postponed.
