This statistic shows the monthly change in nonfarm payroll private-sector employment in the United States. The data are seasonally adjusted. According to the BLS, the data is derived from the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program which surveys about 140,000 businesses and government agencies each month, representing approximately 440,000 individual worksites, in order to provide detailed industry data on employment. Private-sector employment grew by 178,000 in May 2013. Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 175,000 in May 2013.
