This statistic shows the monthly change in nonfarm payroll employment in the United States by industry sector. The data are seasonally adjusted. According to the BLS, the data is derived from the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program which surveys about 140,000 businesses and government agencies each month, representing approximately 440,000 individual worksites, in order to provide detailed industry data on employment. Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 175,000 in May. Professional and business services added the most jobs in May, about 57,000. On the other hand, Government employment declined by 8,000.
