Universal Studios Hollywood - additional information
Universal Studios Hollywood is a working movie studio and a theme park. First opened only as a studio in the early twentieth century, its popular tours lead to the building of attractions, which later developed into a full theme park. The rides and attractions at the park mostly are based on popular movies or television shows of the studio such as Jurassic Park the Ride, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and The Simpsons Ride. As well as this, the park still offers the original attraction of a studio tour, allowing guests to see where and how movies are filmed.
Since 2009, the attendance at Universal Studios Hollywood has increased annually reaching 6.82 million visitors in 2015. Despite the consistent increase in attendance, the park still receives less visitors than its sister park Universal Studios Orlando which had 8.26 million guests in 2015. The Universal Parks brand has spread globally, there is now also a Universal Studios in Japan and Singapore, with plans to build parks in other international locations such as China and Russia. The success of the brand has allowed Universal Studios to become the third largest amusement park chain in the world in terms of attendance, behind Walt Disney Attractions and Merlin Entertainments.
