Champions League matches with the highest TV viewer numbers in Germany 1992-2019

The Champions League final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in May 2013 was the most watched match during the tournament as of 2019. Over 21.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the game broadcast from London on the German public-service channel ZDF. Incidentally, Bayern Munich won the match.

The Champions League is one of the most famous competitions hosted by the UEFA, with one to four football teams from each participating country’s domestic league playing. In Germany, matches involving Bayern Munich were generally among the most viewed. One of the world’s best-known football teams, the club generated a revenue of over 657 million euros in 2018. The current captain is Manuel Neuer, who also captained the German national football team during the FIFA 2018. However, as far as the Champions League is concerned, Bayern Munich was not the club with the most titles won.

FIFA in the lead

Sports events regularly draw huge audience numbers during broadcasts in Germany, and obviously these are not restricted to the Champions League. The most watched broadcast thus far was the FIFA 2014 match between Germany and Argentina, with 34.57 million viewers, followed by the Germany vs. Brazil game during the same event.
