Comparison of energy consumption for energy purposes in the UK 1970-2021

In 1970, the industry sector (including iron and steel) accounted for the largest share of energy consumption, with nearly 43 percent of total final energy use. Since 1970 this sector's energy consumption share has fallen, amounting to 17.7 percent of total final consumption in 2021. Transport now accounts for the largest share of consumption, with 34 percent.
