Edinburgh Castle was the most visited paid attraction in Scotland in 2023. After recording a dramatic decline in visits with the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, that tourist attraction welcomed around 1.9 million visitors in 2023. While this figure denoted a sharp annual increase, it remained slightly below pre-pandemic levels. Meanwhile, the National Museum of Scotland was the most visited free attraction in Scotland in 2023.
