This statistical brief provides an overview of U.S. inpatient hospital costs growth, and its components, for the period between 1997 and 2009. It also broadens prior analyses by examining the growth in costs associated with the 20 most common inpatient diagnoses for the elderly (aged 65 or older) and non-elderly populations (younger than 65).
