Number of water aerodromes in India 2020, by state
Under the regional connectivity scheme (RCS), the government of India planned to launch a sea-plane service in India and ten routes were awarded across the country. The western state of Gujarat and the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands, with three water aerodromes each, had the highest number of aerodromes across the country. This was followed by Assam. Of the ten routes, eight were awarded to Spice Jet, while the rest were awarded to Turbo Aviation Private Limited. Services under this route commenced on October 31, 2020.
