Number of refugees in Chad 2021, by country of origin
Chad hosts around half a million refugees. The most frequent country of origin of refugees in Chad is Sudan. As of September 2021, there were around 374 thousand refugees from this neighboring country. Other three countries bordering Chad are among the most common origins of refugees, namely, the Central African Republic, Nigeria, and Cameroon. People from the Central African Republic accounted for 121 thousand refugees by the end of August 2021. In the spring of 2021, confrontations between government forces and rebel groups in Northern Central African Republic have pushed more than two thousand refugees to seek safety in Chad.
