Share of hydropower in electricity production in African countries 2023
Hydropower is the most used renewable source for electricity generation in Africa. In some countries, hydro resources are responsible for roughly the entire electrical energy production. For instance, in Lesotho, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the share of hydropower in electricity generation surpassed 99 percent in 2022. In Ethiopia and Sierra Leone, it was over 90 percent.
