Under a Decarbonizing Energy Scenario, technology costs adding up to roughly 500 billion U.S. dollars would be needed for electrification of end-use sectors in Central America during the 2018-2050 period, according to a study. The electric vehicles sector is expected to have the largest technology costs, at nearly 400 billion dollars, or 80 percent of the total. In contrast, technologies associated with heating and cooking in commercial buildings are estimated to amount to some 500 million dollars.
