Toyosu Market's highest first domestic tuna auctions in Japan 2019-2024
The highest bid for a domestically caught Pacific bluefin tuna at the first wholesale auction of the year at the Toyosu Market in Tokyo, Japan reached around 114 million Japanese yen in 2024. This represented a significant decrease from the historical record of 333.6 million yen for a bluefin tuna weighing 278 kilograms in 2019.
Toyosu Market is the largest wholesale fish market worldwide, succeeding the Tsukiji fish market following its closure and relocation in 2018. The first auctions of a year are commonly held on the 5th of January, where the first production of the season, particularly domestic tuna, reaches record bidding prices for the year.
