In 2022, according to the Continuous Household Survey in Northern Ireland, the majority of primary school pupils traveled to school by car and the majority of post-primary school pupils travel by bus. As pupils enter post-primary schools, the number of pupils who travel by walking or by car falls significantly, whereas the number of pupils who travel to school by bus increases by more than six-fold. Bicycling is one of the least frequently used mode of transport among pupils in Northern Ireland.
