This statistic shows the share of persons aged 60 and older in urban and rural China covered by pension insurance in 2000, 2006 and 2010. In 2006, around 78 percent of the urban elderly in China had a pension insurance.

The survey started in December 2010. The figures for the years 2000 and 2006 were taken from earlier surveys which were conducted in 2000 and 2006.

In 2010, the urban and rural elderly received on average a monthly pension of 1,527 yuan and 74 yuan respectively.
