From 2015 to 2022, the amount of loans and advances as a share of the bank assets in the European Union and other European Economic Area countries has remained relatively stable. Since 2015, that figure has always remained between 60 and 66 percent. This rate reached 60.5 percent in 2021. Cyprus, Malta, and Greece were some of the European countries where banks had the the lowest level of loans as a share of their total assets.
