The U.S. Senate has formally declared war on 11 different countries, relating to five separate conflicts. The Senate's vote is the second step in this process, after a similar vote is held in the House of Representatives, and the results of these votes have generally been aligned. The last time such a vote was taken was during the Second World War, after which point the use of alternative approval methods have become more common. More information can be found
