Electricity generation at select U.S. plants with cryptocurrency mining 2015-2022
The cumulative electricity generation in five select United States power plants spiked when crypto-mining operations started in 2021. Crypto-mining, or the process of generating new coins and verifying secure transactions, accounts for between 0.6 and 2.3 percent of U.S. electricity consumption.
