According to a survey on online gaming in Singapore in 2020, video gamers spent most of their time on casual single-player games. This was closely followed by first-person shooter games such as Call of Duty. However, different segments of the population preferred different types of games, with casual games more popular with older Singaporeans.
Popularity of casual, mobile phone-based games
Casual single-player games tend to be mobile phone-based games, which could explain their popularity among Singaporeans. With a mobile penetration rate of close to 160 percent, smartphones are a ubiquitous sight in Singapore. Mobile phones were also the preferred primary device for gaming. For casual single-player and multi-player online games, this device would suffice, and can be used anytime during the day, such as during the commute to and from work.
