Japan: public Wi-Fi upload speed by provider

The public Wi-Fi access Haneda-free-wifi had the fastest average upstream speed in Japan, reaching approximately 39 Mbps as of July 2019. The measurements were done in major districts of Tokyo, such as Otemachi, Marunouchi, Kanda, Ochanomizu, Akihabara, and Shinjuku. In order to access Wi-Fi provided by mobile phone operators such as au, Docomo, and Softbank, consumers in Japan need to either obtain devices with a monthly plan or sign a monthly contract specifically for Wi-Fi connections.

Measurements were conducted three times at ten access points at a different time of the day.

"Haneda-free-wifi" is a Wi-Fi access point at Haneda airport in Tokyo, "7 spot" is Wi-Fi access provided by Seven & I Holdings Co., and "at_STARBUCKS_Wi2" is Wi-Fi access provided by Starbucks. Au, Docomo, and Softbank are major mobile phone operators in Japan.
