Coke and Pepsi out of home consumption volume in the United Kingdom (UK) 2017
The UK sugar levy
For Coke and Pepsi, the sugar free variants Zero and Max showed the biggest growth in the out of home market. Furthermore, the share of drinks with less than five gram sugar per 100ml of the overall soft drinks sales volume grew by six percent between 2015 and 2017. This might be due to the UK sugar levy which started on April 6th, 2018. However, initial government reports found no change in the average amount of sugar in products consumed out of home. Instead market changes might simply be due to consumer behavior. Food or drink that contains sugar is the number one product category British adults avoid when they try to eat healthier.
