Volume of natural gas power generation capacity in the Middle East 2016-2035
Middle East natural gas demand
The total demand for natural gas energy in the Middle East is currently 19 quadrillion British thermal units and will grow to 26 quadrillion British thermal units by 2040. Of that, the demanded volume of power generated by natural gas in the Middle East in 2017 was 731 terawatt hours per year and will grow to almost 1,500 terawatt hours per year by 2035.
Energy intensity
The energy intensity of the Middle East is currently 12.7 thousand British thermal units per U.S. dollar GDP and will decrease to 8.9 thousand British thermal units per U.S. dollar GDP. In the global context, the energy intensity was projected to be on average 4.5 British thermal units per U.S. dollar GDP in 20 years.
